Sergios Menswear and Formal Hire are a Boutique Destination Clothing store which is 100% New Zealand owned. You will find us located on 78 Cashel Street (opp Bridge of Remembrance) Christchurch & 10 Athol Street, Queenstown.
We stock international brands including Paul Smith, Diesel, Scotch & Soda, Ben Sherman, Joe Black, Hugo Boss, Dom Bagnato, Lacoste, Loake, Meyer, Florsheim, No Brand & Robert Charles Accessories alongside our own Sergios Collection.

Footwear
We stock an extensive range of footwear both formal and casual which compliments our entire clothing range.
Our brands are based around current looks and levels of quality that you would expect from international manufactures. We carry sizes from EU 40 - 47, UK 6 - 12 & US 6 - 14.
The brands we stock include Loake, Paul Smith, Florsheim, No Brand, Lacoste, & Diesel. As well as a great selection of seasonal footwear.
Our luggage collection offers some great pieces for travel and business.
We also carry a great range of leather wallets from Loake, Paul Smith & Ben Sherman.

Our History
In 1972 Craig A Nicholas, the founder of Sergios, opened a boutique menswear store named Nicholas Nickleby near Warner’s Hotel in Cathedral square. In 1974 he moved to Chancery Arcade. Nicholas Nickleby’s top end suit was a 3pc Hardy Amies suit retailing at $399. Hardy Amies was an English brand made under license in NZ by Cambridge Clothing.
Craig sold Nicholas Nickleby in 1979 and purchased a building in Colombo Street. Due to the success Craig had as a retailer, a restraint of trade was placed on him by the purchaser of Nicholas Nickleby regarding the use of his name.
In 1981 Craig opened Mr Sergios. The name ‘Sergios’ is influenced by the famous men’s fashion designer of the 1980’s, Giorgio Armani.
Mr Sergios moved between buildings from 670 to 678 Colombo street and 1986 Mr Sergios Formal Suit Hire was born.
In the Late 90’s the ‘Mr’ was dropped off the trading name and modernized to ‘Sergios’
In 2001 Craig sold his business interest in Sergios to Paul Dean & Kevin Gainsford, current day owners, whom both worked for Craig at the Colombo Street store.
Feb 2011 Sergios Colombo street store was ‘Red stickered’ and eventually pulled down, on the 4th of October 2011 Sergios re-opened in Merivale Mall. Sergios traded in Merivale Mall for 8 years before relocating to the Christchurch business back to the CBD in June 2019.
The New Christchurch store is located opposite the bridge of Remembrance on Cashel Mall
On the 19th of April 2014 Sergios opened a 2nd store in Queenstown located at 10 Athol Street. Craig Nicholas was invited down to Queenstown to “cut the ribbon” and officially opened the new Queenstown store.
There is a plaque outside the Queenstown store acknowledging Craig’s attendance.
The Queenstown store stocks the same brands as the Christchurch store and the hire department has stock on hand for wedding consultations and fittings.
The Queenstown store is managed by Des Mills.
